A new rising star in the Electra 1000 Be line, the 1037 Be rekindles the Focal tradition of formidable floorstanders, made with power and energy in the bass and capable of delivering extremely high playback levels. And this, with the art and expression of the Beryllium tweeter as well.
With its three, powerful 18 cm W woofers, the Electra 1000 Be line gets down and dirty with this newcomer. Thanks to its limitless power handling and above all elevated sensitivity of 93 dB, the 1037 Be carries on in the spirit of the current Alto Utopia Be and the Chorus 836V: big sound with exceptional firepower in the lower octave, and yet with all the renowned sonic elegance of the Electra 1000 Be line.
It is also at ease in very demanding stereo sound reproduction: constituting all types of dynamic music in the largest sound rooms without limitation. The Electra 1037 Be represents the magic key of the big screen and sound experience, but at home in a remarkable theatre-sound room. It represents an efficient mixture: strength, definition as well as finesse to provoke dramatic and powerful emotions.
The Electra 1000 Be spirit…
First of all, the Electra 1037 Be is a pure expression of the best of Focal technologies, with a midrange-tweeter section directly descended from that of the 1027 Be, a 165 mm midrange in W sandwich composite and the famous IAL inverted dome tweeter in pure Beryllium. Ultra-light, and yet rigid (seven times more rigid than titanium or aluminium with the same mass-volume), its frequency response exceeds 40 kHz without having to resort to a super-tweeter. Thanks to the accompanying IAL cavity, we were able to lower the resonant frequency of the tweeter to less than 700 Hz (being two to three octaves below that of conventional tweeters) with a goal of spectacular reduction of distortion (less than 0.5% of harmonic distortion at 1 kHz!). This exceptional facility to descend very low in frequency with a low level of distortion allows the tweeter to quickly pick up where the midrange drops off, at 2000 Hz. This is a particular advantage, which illuminates a frequency band between 2000 and 4000 Hz that usually is rendered opaque by a midrange drive-unit whose membrane is too heavy and incapable of rendering the richness of information that exists in this area.
… the long version
Entirely new, the bass section had to tightly follow the exceptional characteristics of the midrange-tweeter in terms of richness, speed, neutrality and above all dynamics. The 18 cm woofer in W sandwich has the ideal profile, with its enormous 134 mm diameter magnet (actually the same motor that Focal supplies for 7” and 8” drive-units to L-Acoustics for their sound clusters in outdoor concerts). Be careful of its big sound: these drive-units come in threes, with all the power and bass that one could imagine. In fact, the active membrane surface is identical to that of a 30 cm woofer (density, weight and impact), but with all the advantages of the implementation of three smaller drivers with lower mass moving coils, powerful motors, all of which permit high acceleration and increased definition.
These three woofers move a lot of air, and not just for anything. A 135 mm port rests in the base of the loudspeaker, which encourages the absolutely best performance in bass frequencies. The Advanced Gamma Structure, designed to suppress standing waves, also enables considerably higher output thanks to its 5 cm thick sidewalls and extensive internal bracing.
